Stewards in a Changing Climate: What the Planning Profession Is Being Asked to Do Now

By 2027, Canada's National Adaptation Strategy calls for 70% of professional association members to be equipped to apply climate adaptation tools. Today, only 37% of planners feel they are. That gap is a defining professional question of the times.

In this keynote, Stephanie Gagnon, RPP and President of the Climate Risk Institute (CRI), draws on lived flood and wildfire experience to explore what climate change is asking of the planning profession. She'll share findings from CRI's Professions Advancing Adaptation Competencies project including what the research found, what CRI is recommending, and what each planner can do to help close the gap.

The climate competencies presented reflect CRI's recommendations and have not been endorsed by the Professional Standards Board.

Keynote Speaker:

Stephanie Gagnon RPP, MCIP, President, Climate Risk Institute

Steph is the President of the Climate Risk Institute, from which she brings a unique blend of planning expertise, climate adaptation insight, and professional/executive training leadership skills. She continues to champion capacity-building initiatives that empower planners, engineers, accountants and policymakers to respond to climate challenges with confidence and clarity.
